I own a Bernina 153, a 440, and a serger. They are only plugged in when I'm using them. I was instructed by my dealer that for the protection of my babies (machines), and to avoid very costly repairs this would be wise. I simply unplug the cord from my machine and leave it plugged into a very good power strip. If anything ever happens I'll only have to buy a new cord and my babies won't have to undergo a lengthy and pricey hospital stay.

When we have or are likely to have thunder storms, I not only don't use my sewing machine or computer, I unplug them from the power strips.

Am I overly cautious? I didn't get much done today!
