If your power cord will unhook from your machine....Just unhook it when you are not sewing and lay it where you can easily reach it ...That is what I do.....If lightning would happen to run into the cord it isn't hooked to anything so the worst thing that can happen is that you would have to buy a new cord....And that wouldn't be so bad plus you don't have to get down and crawl around to plug in or unplug.

DH searched online and stores and found some higher jewel rates surge protectors that guarantee your equiptment is safe.. Mind you like our equiptment, they do not come cheap! If I remember right they ran about $35.00, if you are on a tighter budget like I was at that time I'd rather get one of those for a gift than a gift card.
