Beautiful wall hanging. I did the same thing with a small cross stitch that I framed with fabric and quilted, putting it on the door of the cabinet in my studio.
On the walls, DH doesn't mind using "monkey hooks". They leave a tiny hole in the wall and hold a lot of weight. Good for sheet rock but not pannelling.
