Margaret I think your problem is that, like me, you think scraps are just small pieces of fabric that are leftover from projects.
While to some quilters anything under 1/2 yard is considered a scrap.

Also some quilters control their scrap quilts by using only a few colors in them like blue, yellow and white, while others throw in everything. You just have to decide which way you want to go, or how many scraps you have to work with.

Check out Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville as others have suggested and you'll get the idea. Also the site http://www.maryquilts.com/ has some great ideas too, I usually make lots of scrappy string quilts for her HeartStrings project.
