Our home was built before electricity, indoor plumbing and had gas lighting. The front room, right side was originally a parlor, a downstairs bedroom, rented out, spare bedroom, junk room, back to bedroom, had a twelve foot flight cage for cherry head conures, wallpapered and back to bedroom with priscilla curtains, catch-all, one wall lined with bookshelves, room for retired Quaker parrots and quilt cutting room. Very soon it will be the place for ALL quilty and crafty things that are scattered over the house. A "Jane Cave" shared only with the Quakers.
Go for it. Make your rooms functional--not conventional.
