The "default" stitch is what you get when you turn your machine on. - I have never really paid attention to what it is, but mine said "D1" as the stitch when I turned it on. All I do to FMQ is drop the feed dogs & put the darning foot on. Then I go to town, check the back & adjust the top tension to a higher number if I need to. I only read how to FMQ last night after this thread started. I use Mode 1 - what the machine is set to be when you turn it on. I only get eyelashes if I forget to tighten the tension & stitch slower than I am moving the quilt around a curve.

Sorry about the confusion.

P.S. I have NEVER adjusted the bobbin tension. It's been just fine, no matter what thread I'm using in the bobbin or on top.
