Like others, broken so many, no way to guess just how many...usually the little ball breaks first.
The point of the ripper is to push under the stitch..then you are supposed to slide the ripper all the way, as the cutter is the curved inner section... and I always break the tips when I try to yank the threads with the tip to break a thread..using it the wrong way....usually when I'm in a hurry.

I have been sewing for almost 60 years, and have never broken a seam ripper until this week. I was using the tip to help get some corners turned right side out...something I have done countless times with never an issue. So, I was shocked when the tip just snapped...and this is a new ripper, only about 2 months old!! Methinks maybe a lemon? Yay for DH...he offered to loan me his. :)
