Did you try sewing with the 403 but with the plastic bobbin? I thought the 403 took metal bobbin but maybe a class 15. I don't know as I don't own one. I do have a 457 that I haven't played with but that may be a plastic bobbin. I know when I bought it, the seller gave me a box of both plastic and metal bobbins.
They both had a plastic bobbin in them, sewed wonderfully, and both bobbins looked the same. As a matter of fact, they look the same as the metal ones but the metal are too tight.
You should be able to find out what type of bobbins the 403 takes with a google search. They would use metal bobbins. The stylist may take plastic if the bobbin area is plastic.
