I once attended a program where we were taught the proper way to set a dinner table... how many forks went where, color of candles, glassware, etc. At the end, the instructor said, "And now that you know all the rules, you're allowed to break any of them." I've used that "rule" in pretty much every part of my life and have been much happier!

Your story reminds me of my daughter, the freshman psychology major, who came home after her first semester telling us which stage our marriage was in and why her siblings were behaving appropriately for their ages. We smiled and told her how interesting her classes sounded.
