My husband told me about this trick when I got a hang-up call earlier today.

Bring up google.com and type the phone number in the google search area.

Select the search for the website www.whocallsme.com

It probably won't tell you who owns the number, but people write notes on here that may give you a clue as to who it is.

For example ... look at 217-303-8800 (the number I received a call from) and read the notes below. Given that this phone number appears to be a fake "police fund" donation scammer, I don't mind posting the phone number here.

Most of the reverse phone number web sites will now only tell you the general area of the phone (ie "Chicago") but they no longer tell you who it belongs to without paying a fee.

With the number above I at least know it was not someone I wanted to speak with.

And here's another hint about using the phone number in the google search bar. If it's a legimate business - google responses will show you that companies website!! I tried with our business number and it showed our website. Way cool!!
