I have been a fabric junkie since I was 5 years old and my grandmother allowed me to play in her stash scraps. She was a seamstress in a coat factory. The fabrics she brought home (all throwaway scraps) were wonderful. All colors and fabrics. The textures were what first attracted me (as well as the colors). I slept under many a wonderful scrappy quilt made by her. Wool was the #1 fabric but there were velvets and satins (lining) and leather. The whole family had coats and quilts from grandma's loving hands. I wish the quilts had lasted through the years. After many cleanings (outside with the cornmeal and a soft brush), and years in the cedar chest, the quilts had to be thrown away. I do still have my other grandma's hand made quilt though. It is cotton and needs repair, but I have managed to save it.
