I have 3 sewing machines and none has the stitch you are using to secure your appliques. Mine have either 2 or 3 forward stitches to every sideways stitch. Can you tell us more about yours?
My machine is a Brother, but I think most machines should have a blanket stitch. Is it an older machine? Basically the stitch takes one straight stitch forward, then a stitch to the left, then a stitch back to the right, then repeats over and over. Does your machine have something like that?
