The thread coming down from the uptake arm to the thread guide at the needle bar keeps getting tangled with the spring. I took the tension unit apart trying to find out how the spring is in there, but it's attached somehow...I couldn't see how, and I couldn't find a way to turn it or otherwise change it's orientation to the tensioner.

Anyone have any suggestions? I couldn't sew with it like this.

Second issue - My 15 manual says that the needle goes in flat side to the right and threads from right to left. But this machine won't pick up the bobbin thread if I thread it like that. So I turned it around - flat side to left, threaded left to right, and it worked, but skipping stitches. Anyone know which way is correct? Do I have it all wrong??
Hope this helps!

Under Section 2: Refurbishing.
Click tension mechanism, scroll down to page 8 (upper tension mechanism 15K model). Lots of pictures that could be of help to you.

Send an email to Cathy; I bet she has a spring for that.

Thanks, Monica!! That's exactly what I needed. I need to take the whole thing apart again, because the stud is turned slightly off, and my guess is that is why the tension is not working properly. And I think when I get it on right the spring will be in the right place. Great!! I so appreciate your help!

Another question....the foot controller for this makes little "arcing"sounds...but I read somewhere that this happens with the old style ones that the copper piece moves across the spring mechanisms inside. Is that correct? Is it indeed normal, or do I need to replace it with a newer style?
