I KNOW they are the same size. The 500 is the more expensive TOL machine and the 503 is just slightly less "sophisticated" . They are also almost like the 401 and the 403, just with a more updated "dress". The only difference is in the bobbin winders.

They are actually the same size. The 500 does built in stitches - the 503 uses disks to do the same thing. Sew Classic has a chart to (I think it is on the 401 page) match up the disks and the built in stitches.
