I always do this... my mom always touched hers so I do the same :)
I would have to add...
thou shalt keep thy fingers away from the iron when pressing seams, learned this the hard way today. (it is one thing to tap the bottom of the iron real quick to check it, but quite another to iron the side of the finger.. ouch)
