I suggested and was put in charge of our guild's annual challenge this year -- a UFO Challenge, but with some twists.

Each month through our year, culminating in the Spring Luncheon in May, members can bring their unfinished projects (or their WIPs -works in progress, or their PIGS - projects in grocery sacks -- I've got lots of these where I've got a design idea, have pulled all the fabric I want to use, but haven't started cutting) and share with the group.

BUT, they can finish the project themselves; or decide they are completely done with it (it's a UFO for a reason!) and give it away to someone who wants to take it; or trade UFOs with another person; or have someone else complete the top and return it for the original owner to quilt and bind.

Today was the second month of the Challenge and it's awesome how many are getting into this fun challenge. There is a free-for-all when someone wants to give their UFO away, LOL, and today we had one gal keep pulling class projects out of her bag, over and over, and every one of them was taken by a different person! We laughed and named her the most prolific UN-finisher in the guild! :D

We draw a name of a UFO-er each month and they win a prize. Along with a fat quarter choice, today's was a bright, colorful feather duster for shaking the dust off and getting going on these projects. Other prizes will include a cute hand-sized ball for "getting on the ball" with projects; a Dollar Tree pair of tiny colorful reading glasses for "seeing your way clear"; a pair of pink-with-hearts ankle socks for eliminating those "cold feet" about how to finish; a little digital kitchen timer for "time is flying by"; and a collection of tea candles for "shedding some light" on the subject.

At the luncheon we will have a major winner to be crowned "Queen of the UFOs" with a cape made of 1 yd. of a pretty fabric, a scepter wand from the party store, and a long, bright paper horn for tooting her own. We're hoping for a winner for the oldest UFO in our guild.

Members of the guild who are members here.......keep your mouths shut about what you've read!!
