Not sure this will make sense but, first ya sew your squares together. However ya wanna put them and think about the layout, as far as some idea of what ya wanna end up with. When ya use the template to cut them up for the actual twister block, it is positioned over an intersection of four squares. Picture a 4-patch, it has 4 seam lines and they intersect in the middle. That is where the template goes to cut out the "twister" block. Ya line up the seam lines with the lines drawn on your template. It will be crooked when placed on the seams, that is what ya want. Then, after ya cut 'em all out, ya just sew them back together. That is the twister effect.
I posted a link to my first go at this "technique" somewhere a few pages back, I think. It has a pic of what I am on about. The drawn squares on that top are the ones ya cut out and sew back together. It is very important to keep them in order so I suggest doing small sections at a time. I did 5 down and 5 across, sewed them together then cut out another 5x5 section. As ya get the hang of it, ya can do bigger sections just keep them in order!! Or ya just end up with complete chaos. LOL! Don't ask me how I know this, just trust me.
I really hope this helps, once ya get started and have something in front of ya it will make more sense. Good luck to ya!!
