DH, the coupon king of America, bought the Arm & Hammer kind (probably free) and now younger son broke out everywhere his freshly laundered shirt touched.

I'm afraid maybe the products have changed. we don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets either--just dryer balls.
Did you know that vinegar, in place of dryer balls, will break down the soap and soften clothes when used as fabric softener. I started using it and hubby didn't even notice. Our clothes have no scent, but they are still soft.
