I have used the flannel tablecloths too but mostly just for temporary stuff like at a retreat or class.

My sewing room is small... its only about 9' x 10'. I bought some very wide flannel, hemmed the ends and then just stappled it to the wall behind my sewing machine. It covers the whole wall.

When I needed a larger space for a big quilt, I found a king size flannel sheet at a discount store. I stappled it also to the wall in my guest room. Whenever someone stays over, they always look forward to what might be on the wall of 'their' room.
