There's a whole section here on the board dedicated to these. If you go here
http://www.quiltingboard.com/virtual_section_list.jsp and look about half way down the list, you'll see the topic heading which gives lots of information about all different types of kaleidoscopes.
I personally love these because this is a technique rather than a pattern - you get to have real creative input when making them, and you never know exactly how they'll turn out so the actual process is enjoyable rather than just being a race to the finish. :-D
