Just a precaution: Years ago my great-grandmother told my Mom to quadruple her vitamin C intake for a bad cold. As a result Mom became allergic to vitamin C to the point that she couldn't even have a citrus twist on the side of a glass or she'd break out in boils on her neck. It took years for the sensitivity to abate, and even today she has to be careful to not have much citrus in one day. So I do hope you'll be careful.
My best cold remedy:
A) Wash your hands often! This alone will greatly help to prevent infection
B) Gargle with warm salt water
C) Take Echinacea and zinc lozenges
D) At the first sign, PUT IT TO BED. Hard to do when one feels one can still function, but the cold will pass faster, your friends and co-workers won't be exposed so will surely thank you, and you'll get lots of sympathy!
E) Keep hydrated.
F) Chicken noodle soup
