Hello and a warm welcome from southeastern West Virginia. I began quilting in 1976 with a leather thimble...and they work great until you get poked! I made myself learn to use a metal thimble...any kind is fine as long as it has a recessed (indented) top....preferably with the little dimples to help hold the needle.
