The origin of the word QUILT
Back in the 1800's there was a club of ladies who loved to play with fabric. They called their club, "Quite Understandably, I Love Textiles." This got abbreviated to Q.U.I.L.T., or quilt. Soon people referred to the patchwork bed coverings they made as "quilts".

I'm going to keep this myth going. It's as good as any other ones that I have heard. >.
