If you decide to felt your own yardage, take the time to whipstitch the edges together with cotton thread before you start felting it in the washing machine. Sewing the edges together helps discourage any tendencies towards ruffling or flaring that certain wool fabrics do when felted.

Using a contrasting colour cotton thread makes it easy to remove after felting is done using your seam ripper.
