Yes it is easy. There will be instructions with the new ones. Either control will work, but you can ask them which one they would recommend. Check the rest of the wiring and make sure you cannot see any cracks that show copper, and you will just have to open the bottom of the new controllers and screw wire on two places and replace cover. If your current wiring is bad you may can buy the controller already wired with a new plug that will fit your machine. I have done this many times with success. I like the machines though. The older singers are neat, but I grew up sewing on an un-singer, so I like them a lot. Pretty color.
