I've been putting shucked corn in the microwave wrapped in waxed paper for about 4 min. It comes out perfectly crisp and ready to eat. No need for boiling water. I don't know how you'd do it for more people than 2 but it works for us. I'll have to try this next summer if I can remember it by then. Looks like a good idea.
