If you were making a whole quilt of these fabric strips alone you can sew 2 1/2 x 44" strips together and then measure the width, then cut your blocks to match. Chain sewing like that can make the project go a lot quicker.

It is really pretty. Measuring and cutting to that measurement is done by many people.

I put the ruler I cut with under my needle at the 1/4 inch mark and move it one needle width smaller than the 1/4 inch. Then I put a thick piece of painters masking tape next to my ruler and guide my fabric next to that. I get a great 1/4" seam.

Either method works.
