Another thing to do is to mention to everyone that you know that you are looking for/interested in the old black Singer machines. You'd be surprised at the people who have them and don't know what to do with them. I was getting my teeth cleaned and got into a conversation with the hygienist about vintage machines. Next thing I knew, she was GIVING me her grandmothers' Singer model 99. You might just find that someone has a FW that they would be willing to sell you at a reasonable price!
