Note to the young: If you are given or inherit a quilt you don't especially like, just put it away. Perhaps someone else will want it, or you might even like it yourself later on. I inherited a quilt made around 1840 by some ancestor I had never heard of. Years later I took it to the Vermont Quilt Festival to have it appraised. When they had an anniversary show, they asked to borrow it, and I was pleased that her work was appreciated. I still don't care for the colors, but I do appreciate the fine workmanship. Thank goodness for her descendants who took good care of it.
