Make sure the arm on the walking foot is attached to the "up/down" connection on your machine. I just had this happen the other day when I thought I had it attached the right way and I'd missed connecting it to the screw on the shank.
Sorry for the not so technical terminology - - thing-a-ma-jig is my usual term for those things.
