I have a babylock embroidery machine, it seems to work better for me with a metal bobbin. Works smoother, and
better. I also use metal bobbin on my 221-1 singer.

I think with the Babylock, you should probably be using the bobbins that were made for it, i.e., plastic.
The 221 is going to work better with the bobbins that were made for it which would be metal.
