The appliqued pincushions would be very easy if you did it my way. I'd cut out a freezer paper pattern of the size you wanted the pincushion to finish up. Iron the pattern to the back of your fabric and cut the pincushion with a 1/4 inch seam allowance around it. Fold the seam allowance to the back and baste the seam allowance down. Press with an iron. As you are appliqueing it down, you can take out the basting thread and when you get most of it appliqued down, slip the freezer paper out. This method works very well on curves of all kinds, or at least it does for me.
