Are you self taught? How long have you been quilting?
Thank you. I started learning FMQing about 3 years ago, but have been sewing, including making a handful of quilts, off and on most of my life. My first memory of quilt-making is sitting on the kitchen floor in the farmhouse with my mom, arranging 4 inch squares into a quilt top, cira 1960. She taught me to make cardboard templates out of cereal box cardboard, trace around them with a pencil, and cut out squares. I still remember that soft grey fabric with pretty red and yellow flowers on it.
Self-taught? Yes, and no. I've learned tons from books, videos, other quilters, and a couple of FMQ classes, but the 100's or perhaps 1000's of hours of trial and error, design experimentation-doodling and stitching, and practice are all mine... And I'm loving every minute of it!
