So the guide that hangs down under the foot does not like to sit on top of the fabric...only likes to ride on the plate like when you do piecing?
Yes, mine does. Remember I have a different brand of machine, so yours may be different, whis is also why i suggested a trip to the dealer. Mine seems to be a bit longer than the stitch in the ditch foot plate which rides nicely in the ditch, but it has a single hole, so I can't see where to stop if I have to pivot. I use it when my sitd goes from edge to edge. It's always somthin'
