Yes, ladies, PLEASE find a way to get this test if you don't have coverage. There are so many resources now and we have these screening tests for a reason.
And while we're in the topic of women's health...I hope all of you are getting your Paps also. Cervical cancer is so rare now because of this test but it shocks me how many skip it. Considering it's almost always caused by a virus, and one that is so common and that can lie dormant for many years, this is very scary.
I am a cytotechnologist. I screen these for a living. Two things I'd like all ladies to know is, you are never too old or too married to need a pap, and dysplasia or ascus is NOT cancer. If you hear those words, it's not the end of the world. Ask questions. And know that abnormalities are more common than you think. The more serious cases must be treated however...finding them the whole point of the dreaded stirrups and yearly visit. Haha
