:hunf: They used to say to prepare yourself for the discomfort of being squished nearly flat between those two (always cold!) plates during the mammogram -- "go out to the garage and lie on the floor with your breast under a tire, then have your DH back over your breast & hold it there awhile, which is to simulate their leaving you sooo long in that torturous compression of your tender tata, and - finally - have DH roll the tire back off your breast. When you've got your breath back, switch sides..."
That's just about how painful the mammograms used to be! Much better these days.
