Tension is a usually the main problem for new longarmers. It's like a tug of war between the top and bottom threads. If you have eyelashes on the bottom of the quilt, tighten the top tension. If you have eyelashes on the top of the quilt loosen the top tension.
If you still have lashes rethread your machine and slow down. Clean out the lint with every bobbin change. Make sure the bobbin is in the right direction. Practice, practice, practice! I've had my old style Lizzie for a year and a half and have no tension issues except with different threads. When using a new thread brand I do a sample piece to adjust tension.
