I'm not keen on hand stitching and did the last couple by machine and was really pleased. I use a walking foot for the complete binding. I stitched to the back, brought it to the front and used tiny strips of the fusible stuff you use for applique to hold it in place right where I wanted the edge, on the stitching line. (Similar to Sharon Schamber's glue method). Then I used a tiny blanket stitch and stitched right along the stitching line from when I stitched it to the back and just caught the edge of the binding on the front. I loved how it turned out and plan to do more like that...when I get to do some more quilting..lol.
