Are you talking about a piano key border style but without the keys, just border? I think they call that pattern of quilting beadboard? Anyhow on the outside edge you can stitch beyond the quilt edge to go to the next line BUT I have never found a way to go from one line to the next on the inner border without having to resew some lines. Maybe someone else can tell you how they manage it.
