what is your quilt? are the fabrics heavy? the bamboo batts i have purchased are very lightweight- and very easy to stitch---i would think a bamboo/poly blend would be used for machine quilting not hand quilting though---poly batts tend to be a bit heavier- and loftier.
you might try a longer/sharper needle-like a 10 straw or a milner, or even sharps.
