Rae, you do NOT have to quilt the tops you make. In Europe lots of the pieced/patched work they make are not quilted. Granted, fine quilting is beautiful but your batik top would be beautiful anyway. And I've noticed posts from some unhappy long arm customers--contrasted with the beautiful long arm work we see posted here--so sending your quilt out does not guarantee it will be finished as you dream it could be.
