Welcome from West Virginia! My mom and I also quilt together. I cut out all of her pieces. She can piece by hand beautifully, but can't cut out a pattern using a template at all. She invariably cuts into the templates and her pieces get smaller. I jokingly tell her she does that on purpose so I have to cut!
