I have the freezer on the bottom and love it, too! Wouldn't have one any other way.
I had a flat top stove and yes, you can can on the new ones. I decided to go with burners again when we moved here. Not sure why, have been kicking myself ever since!!!!! If I had the money, I'd buy a flat top stove.
