I roll the quilt firmly from 2 sides. Put one roll inside the machine so the needle is between the rolls, or at the center of the quilt. Start quilting from the center, moving the quilt to the left (away from the machine) as I go. Don't worry about the left side. Just keep moving the quilt to the left as you go. When one side, or 1/4, of the quilt is finished, roll it again and start the process over with the unquilted side in the machine, or to your right.
Doing stitch in the ditch, or limited movement works well this way for a beginner. As you get more comfortable you may allow both rolls to unroll and just move the quilt around in a 4-6 inch area near the needle.
