Well, I went back and changed all of the categories, and then discovered that every time you visit a category, you have to do this change. I wish that it could be a permanent change. I will still use this method, so when I want to look at new posts, I don't have to hunt for them. I can make them come to the top of the page. Sorry for the wrong advice.
If you want to 'permanently' change the order of the posts, you will find
Thread Display Mode: in General Settings. Be sure to scroll to the bottom and save your changes after choosing the style you prefer.
