Welcome from Texas. I used to watch my DMIL do those. All I remember is her having a long rope of braided fabric's that she would wind together and and stitch together as she wrapped it. She used a heavy thread that was stronger than we use for sewing. She would start shaping from the center round , oval or which shape she wanted and worked from there. It looked very simple to do.
