Google Sharon Schamber's tutorial on basting a quilt. All you need is 2 boards and you can sit down to baste. It's the greatest technique and the only one I use to baste. (I do pin baste instead of thread basting).
I haven't tried this yet, but so many people have told me it works great. I'm going to ask the DH to get me a few pairs of boards of varied lengths, so I can do small and large quilts with them.
I love Sharon's videos. She has a lot of good tricks of the trade.
