I was going to say the same thing ...tape it while you pin or baste it.....whatever works best for you. I tape mine on the table and go from there. Hard not to get no puckers but the more distance you have between quilting the less puckers. As you get better so will the smoothness..I'm with ya tho I hand quilt and only machine quilt small projects....Happy quilting
