I just did a dresden plate top (it is on the picture page) What I did was sew all the plate pieces together then pressed the seems open. Then placed the plate centered on block ( I use a kids washable glue stick and just put a small line down 4 or 5 petals to help hold in place) put the center piece on and satin stiched it then satin stiched all aroung the outside petals.
