I keep my hand sewing needles in drawers in a small plastic cabinet. The drawers are labeled "embroidery", "quilting", "beading", "long smocking", etc. I also keep a few in a pincushion with each segment labeled. My machine needles are kept in divided compartments in a large drawer labeled "Needles". I have a compartment for each type and size of needle, e.g., universal, quilting, embriodery, ball point, double needles, sharps, etc.). I keep a film roll canister for used needles and bent straight pins. Since I change needles often, that canister gets filled up fairly often.
